HOLIDAY CAMPS
Education outside the classroom walls
We’ve already organized 4 trips:
- August 2022, beach camp at Fish Eagle Point in Tanga (45 kids)
- January 2023, wildlife safari trip to Mkomazi National Park (60 kids)
- June 2024, Arts camp in the Usambara mountains, Shume, Tanga (115 kids)
- December 2024, Beach camp in Kigamboni, Dar Essalam
The first trip to Fish Eagle Point in 2022 was a huge success! Our students learnt about the ocean biodiversity, how to swim, preserve the natural environment. This short break not only enabled the kids to have some rest and have fun but also to learn valuable life lessons, be empowered and spread their wings making them realize how high they can reach!
This year, we took our sponsorship beneficiaries for a camping right here in the Usambara mountains, in Shume, so that they can gain another valuable experience and develop by spending time in nature, in their own homeland that’s unfortunately very little known to most Sambaa people. We wanted to teach the children about local flora and fauna, environmental issues and the deforestation process progressing in their area. Due to the modern education process children spend less and less time with their parents or grand parents and the traditional knowledge about the Nature and the conservation isn’t organically transmitted anymore between the generations.
The kids have loved the experience, the camping area generously offered to us by Dr. Amir Masala turned out to be just perfect for a large camping trip. The participants, small and big, learned so many valuable skills: how to navigate in the forest, set up a tent and a camp, make a safe outdoors fire, portion food for 140 people, how many potatoes 140 people eat and many, many more! The team of instructors who joined us organized great workshops in modern African dancing, traditional dance, walking on stilts, acting performance, and we even made our very own drums and the kids are excited to start a band! We strongly believe that education shouldn’t be only about Math and English. Life skills, Art, music, outdoorsy fun is as important as classroom taught subjects to help the kids to grow and be awesome

Why we travel with kids?

- For our trips we hire new teachers and instructors who bring their savoir faire, as well as their passion for Arts and performance.
- Uvi Foundation kids get a chance to make new friendships, get out of their comfort zone, try new activities, make stories and see that the city life and in other places in Tanzania has it’s perks but also challenges.
- Traveling makes our kids more open minded, creative, gives them more opportunities to find their passion and learn what dreams they would like ot persue. It gives an exposure to diversity of the world. Manykids living in the Usambara mountains have never even seen the Ocean and we live in a coastal region!
SIMPLY, BECAUSE TRAVELING IS THE ONLY EXPENSE
THAT ACTUALLY MAKES YOUR RICHER!
